Upcoming Solio Lodge in Kenya Gets New Manager and Chef
August 11, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Exciting news from Kenya: A new property we've had our eyes on—Solio Lodge—has named Ava Paton as inaugural manager and Joseph Mbugi Karobia as its first chef. The lodge is about to open its doors, and will be part of Tamimi Kenya Ltd. and The Safari Collection.
Paton, we hear, has extensive experience in African travel and tourism. She has worked at (and managed) a number of other camps and lodges in Kenya, including Loisaba, Elsa’s Kopje, Shompole and Rhino River Camp.
Joseph Mbugi Karobia joins Solio Lodge as head chef from previous posts with the British Army and as the commis in bakery and pastry at the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah. He has been working closely with Paton to create a food and beverage concept for the property.
Solio Lodge will be set in the valley of Mount Kenya. The lodge will have only six suites, so guests will have plenty of individual service. Good to know: The Solio Game Ranch has been recognized as one of the most successful private rhinoceros breeding reserves in all of Kenya, and the grounds are now home to more than 70 Black Rhinoceros and 150 White Rhinoceros.
