The New Anguilla

Robin Fox of Pisa Brothers is an Anguilla buff, having visited the island for years. But, with the addition of the new Viceroy and new restaurants, it never tires.
Seasoned travelers to the Caribbean will continue to cherish Anguilla, especially after visiting the new Viceroy hotel. Anguilla, known for its excellent climate, 33 breathtaking white sand beaches, superb restaurants and the most hospitable locals, never disappoints. We have been visiting this island gem for 18 years but our latest experience here was still new and pleasing.
Situated on a rocky promontory overlooking Meads and Barnes bays, Viceroy Anguilla is the notable newcomer for those seeking luxury and style. Built with a tasteful contemporary design, this luxury hotel is chic and sexy. The dramatic entry driveway, with its rows of royal palms, leads you to the beautiful marble lobby decked with contemporary works of art.
Our One-Bedroom Suite with kitchenette and plunge pool was one of the categories among its 166 guest rooms. Accommodations range from spacious studios to Five-Bedroom Beach Front Villas. There is enough variety to suit all guests’ needs—the kid’s center, teen club, tennis courts, spa, spinning room, yoga and fitness center and three pools would make any guest ecstatic! We took advantage of the complimentary bicycles to visit the Viceroy Beach Club on Meads Bay. A shuttle takes guests to the beach club, just minutes away. There is full beach service available, and even a DJ mixing reggae songs, which makes you feel like you are at a Caribbean Nikki Beach.
The adult infinity pool at the foot of Sunset Bar is the place to be at—when else?—sunset. We enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets while sipping pink champagne. The Viceroy has a youthful vibe quite different from anything else in Anguilla—did I forget to mention there is a DJ at the bar during cocktail hour?
Our stay in Anguilla would never be complete without checking out the new restaurants. Jacala on Meads Bay has become the hottest reservation on the island. Jacques Borderon, formerly of Malliouhana, has opened a small beachfront restaurant, with a menu that combines a casual French flair with local ingredients. The food was so delicious, we ordered some to take on our flight home! (Borderon was happy to oblige, but was apologetic at having to compromise on the presentation of his lobster club.)
The SandBar on the beach at Sandy Ground is a lively, casual tapas bar. Its owner and chef, Denise Carr, is formerly from Cuisinart. While the small plates are delicious, do not leave without tasting the pineapple rum.
We also enjoyed da’Vida on Crocus Bay. With another gorgeous beach location, da’Vida lets guests choose between casual and fine dining. Adjacent to the restaurant is the funky Why Knot beach boutique. Fabiana is the owner and creator of the famous Why Knot beach cover-up. Stop by!
We were thrilled to see that our dear friend Sue Ricketts has opened a second store following success with her Zazaa boutique in Shoal Bay East. Visit her at the new location in Long Bay, conveniently close to the Viceroy hotel.
And, just when you thought Anguilla couldn’t get better, you now have the opportunity to buy a piece of this paradise. Villas at the Viceroy, and Cap Juluca, are for sale!
