Capella Shanghai to Open in 2017

Good news for fans of Capella Hotels & Resorts, the ultra-luxe hospitality company founded by Horst Schulze, former president and COO of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. In March 2017, Capella will open an urban resort comprising unique heritage buildings in a historic district of Shanghai. Dating from the 1860s, and really representative of 1930s Shanghai, these Shikumen-- or stone warehouses-- combine eastern and western architectural styles in what’s now called the Jian Ye Li heritage area.

The project is being developed by Shanghai Hengfu Investment & Development, and the complex will include the new luxury hotel, residences, and retail space. Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li will have 55 “shikumen” villas serviced by Capella Personal Assistants. Facilities will include The Capella Library, a French brasserie, the Auriga Spa, and the retail Gallery.

Capella currently operates seven hotels and resorts globally in the following locations: Dusseldorf, Ixtapa, Singapore, Marigot Bay (St Lucia), and New Zealand. Other Capella hotels and resorts in development include Bangkok and the Riviera Maya.
