Banyan Tree Yangshuo will combine Chinese history with a contemporary resort vibe in all its accommodations.

We’ve been hearing buzz from China lately about a new luxury resort that will open its doors this summer in the southern city of Yangshuo. Banyan Tree Yangshuo, set in Fuli Town along the Li River, will have 142 suites and villas that combine classic Chinese history with a contemporary resort vibe (think latticed windows, ink wash paintings, marble mosaics and more). We love that all suites and villas will have views of the mountains and river.

The destination: Fuli Town is a historian’s retreat, and has largely been untouched by tourism. It is named as the hometown of the traditional painted fans of China, and with less than 10,000 residents, it has produced several artists, such as Li Zhen’ou, a master of bird painting.

Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Yangshuo as it is one of the best spots in China for rock climbers. Biking is also a great way to get around Yangshuo and the town offers many rental services for visitors.

The facts: Visitors can reach Yangshuo via Guilin Liangjiang International Airport. American citizens are required to obtain visas to China, which can be handled through The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the U.S.

To fully round out a China experience, this resort would be a perfect add-on to a trip to destinations like Shanghai, Beijing or Sanya.
