March 9, 2010 By: Ruthanne Terrero
So here's the buzz: The James New York opens in SoHo late this summer at the southwest corner of Grand and Thompson Streets.
Here’s what we know so far of the hotel, whose sister property is in Chicago. Design will be sleek: The hotel’s look is being crafted by the Office for Design and Architecture in collaboration with Perkins Eastman and The James Design team.
Want more details? Here goes:
A rooftop pool deck and bar will be located on the 16th floor. The guest-only private dipping pool has a 360-degree unobstructed view of downtown and the west. The adjacent bar and lounge is enclosed and can be enjoyed throughout all four seasons.
Architectural elements such as a “halo rooftop” above the open air pool make The James New York a unique addition to the New York sky-scape.
An urban garden will sit on the second floor lobby. The expansive outdoor space allows guests a private enclave to relax. Replete with grass and botanicals, a bar, outdoor dining spaces, meeting space with outdoor terrace access – the urban garden is a respite enclosed by industrial, concrete walls – a protective shell for the hidden greenery within….
A mix of art from prominent and up-and-coming New York artists will be permanent features at The James New York.
The hotel is also expected to have a star chef, serving farm-to-table cuisine.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on more details and to supply you with photos as soon as we can.
