Avalon Waterways Adds Active Discovery Cruises on The Rhine

Avalon Waterways is expanding its Active Discovery on the Danube cruises to include two new Active Discovery on Rhine itineraries (eight days from Amsterdam to Frankfurt or the reverse). On these voyages, travelers have the opportunity to bike, hike and explore their way through Europe. These are cruises focused on engaging cruise-goers with the people and places of Europe.

Potential land excursions include: running tours of Amsterdam, hiking on trails, culinary tours, painting classes, dressing in real Roman attire a reenacting the Roman Games, or touring historic castles, extinct volcanoes, or a coal mine.

Avalon Waterways will continue to offer Active Discovery on the Danube cruises (nine days from Budapest to Linz or the reverse), which include opportunities to bike, hike, and canoe along the Danube River, learn local languages, explore an ice cave, take an archery lesson, descend into an underground salt mine, climb a mountain during a guided climb, conduct an orchestra, compose a waltz, play a round of of golf, or help a farmer in his apricot orchard.

The majority of excursions are included in cruise fare; however, some excursions will come at an additional cost.

Both cruises are held on Avalon Felicity, which accommodates only 138 passengers. The staterooms have a minimum of 172 square feet of space and are the largest of the European rivers today. All staterooms and suites include a minibar, spacious closet, flat-screen satellite TV and radio, Comfort Collection Beds, and a large private bathroom complete with a full shower and premium bath amenities. Onboard amenities include a Fitness Center, a Sky Deck complete with a whirlpool, and complimentary computer use in public areas and Wi-Fi access.
