This past weekend, Luxury Travel Advisor traveled to London to scope out the buzzed-about Chuan Spa at The Langham, London. We got a behind-the-scenes look at the spa before it officially opened today. As we first reported last month, the spa-- which incorporates the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine into its treatments-- is the first for the brand to debut in Europe.
What we found on our visit: A lofty zen-like entrance which inspires instant calm, beautifully tiled steam rooms, a salt sauna-- glowing orange-- that’s unique in London, and elegant treatment rooms that reflect the spa’s philosophy: a holistic approach to balancing the five natural elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water, and the body’s personal Ying and Yang.
Signature spa treatments like the ‘Chuan Tao of Detox’ (a blissful combo of the Toning Body Wrap; Chuan neck, back and shoulder massage; and Thalgo Oxygen Facial) seek to restore the body and mind through Traditional Chinese Medicine. 
In fact, a fully-certified TCM specialist is on staff for private consultations and TCM therapies like Ho Guan (cupping).
But perhaps the best spa feature of all: The swimming pool located in the former bank vault. Slate walls soar above the 16-meter aqua pool tiled in mosaic. At one end, an enormous painting glitters against the wall. Fitness addicts will also appreciate the spacious work-out room stocked with state-of-the-art Technogym cardio and resistance equipment along with free weights.
Guests start off their treatment by embarking on a natural water journey (after all, the Chinese word “Chuan” means “flowing water”). The Chuan Tri-bathing Ritual showcases beautiful wet facilities- beginning with the aromatic steam room or sauna, followed by a cool shower, then rounded off with a long soak in the vitality pool to prepare for the spa treatment.
