Hotel Buzz: Six Senses Laamu Graces Maldives

Here in New York we're stuck in that drab time of year just before Spring, but not quite after Winter. It's gray, it's wet, it's cold, and we are definitely Maldives dreaming'. This week we heard that Six Senses' debuted a new resort on the Maldive island of Olhuveli - Six Senses Laamu.

The 97-villa property sits on white sand overlooking tropical vegetation and a blue lagoon. We hear the location is a surfer's paradise with 10-foot swells that crash on the beach. Surfing lessons, both board and kite are offered along with diving, skiing and snorkeling from the Ocean School.

For something a little sexier, head out at night to the bar, which is built over the water and on several levels for some carefully concocted cocktails. The resort has its own wine "cellar," Attitude, which is a tower of spun glass that rises out of the sea. The Longitude Restaurant, brasserie-style, serves up fresh salads, fish and pastas. There is an Organic Restaurant, as well.

The Spa sits in four wicket nests, two oceanside and two in the trees. We hear the menu is a bevy of Asian treatments. There is also a Yoga pavilion that faces the sea.
