New York Bar Celebrates Cocktail History

This sounds like a blast for serious imbibers: The Barclay Bar, located inside the InterContinental New York Barclay, is putting a retro twist on the weeknight wind-down with a new program dubbed the Decades Cocktail Hour. Each weeknight, the bar will focus on a different era with decade-specific music, moving images and $8 featured cocktails from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.

On Mondays, celebrate the 1920s and the 1930s with the Sidecar and French 75 as featured cocktails. Tuesdays embrace the 1940s and 1950s with the Bellini and Harvey Wallbanger. Wednesdays focus on the 1960s with the Vodka Martini; Thursdays the 1970s with Caiparinhas and Fridays, the 1980s and 1990s get their due with Tequila Sunrises and Cosmopolitans.

In addition to the cocktails, five original video installations from filmmaker Cary Kehayan will be displayed to help set the mood of each decade, and music consultants Music Styling have compiled a series of custom playlists for each decade with classic musical gems.
