Summer in Dubai? Why not? The heat's dry, and there's plenty to see all over the emirate.
This summer, Dubai will host a special season-long program: Lasting from June 15 to September 6, ‘Summer is Dubai 2014' will include indoor family entertainment, fireworks, shopping offers and plenty of culinary experiences.
Modhesh World - an indoor family edutainment attraction - will open at the Dubai World Trade Centre from June-September. (Tip: Visitors can see updates on music, cultural and sports events taking place at the venue by keeping an eye on www.dubaicalendar.ae.) Malls throughout the city are also offering fun experiences, and families can experience snow in the desert at Ski Dubai; climb to the top of the world at Burj Khalifa; go under the sea at Dubai Aquarium; and swim with dolphins at Atlantis, The Palm, which is also running summer camps throughout the season. For something really different, be sure to check out a 24.4 meter long, 7.6 meter high dinosaur skeleton, being exhibited at Dubai Mall.
Adventure-seekers can try everything from sky diving to motor sports to sailing to water parks. A number of exhibitions halls at the Dubai World Trade Centre are being turned into ‘Dubai Sports World,' so sports fans should be sure to swing by.
Beyond ‘Summer is Dubai,' there will be several opportunities to learn more about Arabian culture. Ramadan in Dubai takes place from June 29 to July 27, and visitors can take part in cultural activities reflecting the importance of the month—including the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Ramadan Forum and the Ramadan Tents.
In the last two weeks of Ramadan leading up to Eid Al Fitr, shoppers should check out the ‘Eidiyat Dubai' promotion (they may win some notable prizes, we hear!); and as Ramadan ends, Eid in Dubai begins, running from July 28 to August 1 and featuring concerts and family activities (think theatrical shows and cartoon character performances throughout the malls).
As the season wraps up, the annual extravaganza Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) will run from August 2 to September 5. The 17th edition of DSS will inclufe a number of world-class events and activities as well as shopping promotions.
