Cutty Sark to Reopen in London

Great news from London this morning: City website Londonist is reporting that the legendary Cutty Sark will reopen to the public on April 26 this year, nearly five years after it was gutted by fire.

The 143-year old tea clipper has undergone a multi-million dollar restoration, work on which had actually begun before the fire. This actually proved helpful, since many of the original fittings had already been removed and were saved from the blaze.

The reopening will provide another welcome boost to the tourist industry in the runup to the Olympic games this summer. The Cutty Sark is an important relic of imperial trade, and has been a key part of Greenwich’s tourism since it first berthed in the area in 1954.
