The Fountain Lounge to Open at The Roosevelt New Orleans

The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, has announced that it will open the new Fountain Lounge, a raw bar offering locals and guests a destination for live music, creative cocktails and inventive small plates in an atmosphere where old-world tradition and modern sophistication meet.

Slated to open this fall, the new lounge at The Roosevelt New Orleans, adjacent to the famous Sazerac Bar, will celebrate its history by returning its original name, “Fountain Lounge.”

Opened in 1938, the original Fountain Lounge used to be a place a place for fashionable people to meet to enjoy cocktails and small plates in an atmosphere described in an original hotel brochure as “casual and carefree as a night in Paris.”

The new Fountain Lounge will feature live entertainment with a focus on super premium wines by the glass and small plates in keeping with its history, but it will set itself apart by offering a full raw bar serving an array of oysters and shellfish from the Gulf Coast and a sampling of the best raw seafood from around the world. Offerings include: Crispy Oysters with Cajun Vichyssoises and Duck Crackling, Pecan Ale Glazed Pork Belly, and Seared Tuna in a Smoked Tomato Broth. Guests will also be able to step back in time with updated versions of original Fountain Lounge cocktails, such as the Bayou Swizzle.

Featuring rich wood flooring, luxurious fabrics and high-end finishes, the new Fountain Lounge will balance its glamorous past with modern touches. Just as hotel patrons did in the 1930s, the Fountain Lounge patrons will enter the restaurant from the main hotel lobby instead of the Sazerac Bar.

“At the Roosevelt, we’re constantly exploring the balance between celebrating our enchanting history and creating the next chapter in our future,” said Tod Chambers, general manager of The Roosevelt New Orleans.
