Buzz in Madrid: Hotel URSO Debuts in August

URSO Hotel Madrid

From the folks behind Cap Rocat in Mallorca and Torralbenc in Menorca (Balearic Islands), a new five-star boutique hotel will be opening in Madrid. Called URSO, the hotel is the long-time dream of GM Pablo Carrington, who has wanted to open a hotel in the Spanish capital for some time. Occupying an entire block between the Chamberi and Chueca districts, URSO is housed in a 19th century neoclassical building with just 78 rooms and suites.

Designer Antonio Obrador worked with local artists in choosing materials and décor for the contemporary interiors, which resemble a private home. The focus is on creating a sense of place and personality, so bed linens are Spanish, and even the hotel uniforms were created by a Spanish designer. The best digs are the two penthouse terrace suites each equipped with a large terrace featuring a dining area, seating lounge, and of course, views over the city.

Note that the buzzed-about Barcelo food market, a treasure trove of local delicacies, will open next month right near the hotel. Choose room service and you’ll get gourmet treats from the neighborhood’s artisanal shops (breads and baked goods will be sourced from one of the oldest bakeries in town). True to the hotel philosophy, spa treatments are by the Spanish skincare specialist, Natura Bissé. On the lower level, the Spa By Natura Bissé has four treatment rooms, a small pool, fitness center, and hammam.
