Big restaurant news from Paris. Chef Gastón Acurio—celebrated as a global ambassador of Peruvian cuisine—has opened his first restaurant in France. Called Manko in reference to Manco Cápac (Son of the Inca Sun God), the highly anticipated restaurant recently debuted in the Théâtre des Champs Elysées (on the lower level at 15 Avenue Montaigne, also occupied by the Maison Blanche restaurant on the top level). This is a coveted piece of real estate in the Golden Triangle.

Designer Laura Gonzalez created a chic space with leather banquettes and velvet chairs, accented with traditional Peruvian fabrics. Acurio believes in simple, accessible, authentic cuisine “without borders”—showcasing the rich cross-cultural diversity of Peruvian cuisine (influenced by Japan, Europe, China and Africa over the centuries). Menu items include ceviche, tiraditos, and charcoal grilled beef with Peruvian vegetables like quinoa, corn, and colorful potato varieties. Diners are encouraged to share portions at long, open tables. Note: Upstairs, the Manko Cabaret will stage shows on the weekends.
