Jetset Report: Lufthansa Has Beer Garden in Munich Lounge
March 11, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Germany wouldn't be Germany without beer, and the country's flag-carrier seems to agree. Later this month, Lufthansa will be opening what is probably the first Business lounge with a dedicated beer garden. "Prost!" say we.
Beginning March 23, status customers and Business-Class guests can relax in a Lufthansa lounge featuring its own beer garden. In cooperation with Munich’s Franziskaner brewery, Lufthansa passengers can enjoy draught beer tapped from the barrel and Bavarian pretzels while relaxing at traditional beer tables overlooking the Bavarian Alps (because, really, what good is beer and a pretzel without the Alps as a backdrop?). The beer garden is integrated in the refurbished Business Lounge in the Schengen departures area (Gate Area G, opposite G 28) of Terminal 2.
In addition to a re-designed bistro area, the Business Lounge has six new satellite bars and a large bench accommodating up to 28 passengers. Those who would rather work than relax (this is Germany, after all!) can use one of 18 workstations, some equipped with integrated computers. From any seat in the lounge, passengers can surf the net with their laptop or check emails. Two large screens in a separate TV area provide a choice of television entertainment. Also available are two shower rooms, complete with hair dryers, towels and a range of toiletries (bliss after a lengthy flight).
Altogether, Lufthansa provides passengers in Terminal 2 with a choice of seven lounges totalling over 48,000 square feet. And passengers not flying Business Class won't be left out, either: Passengers outside security can take advantage of Munich Airport’s own Airbräu restaurant—the world’s first airport brewery and restaurant, offering its own Bavarian beer garden during the summer months.
