The Peninsula Hong Kong Revives Afternoon Tea Dances

The Peninsula Hotel Hong KongIt’s been 85 years since The Peninsula Hong Kong opened its doors, the very first hotel in the world to bear The Peninsula name. To fête this big milestone year, the grande dame is reviving a cherished tradition of yesteryear. Back in the day, Hong Kong society would tear it up on the dance floor at the hotel’s Afternoon Tea dances.

Now you can turn back the clock on the first Sunday of each month from 3-6 pm when a 10-piece band plays in The Lobby for revelers (through the month of November). Before you put on your dancing shoes, partake in a vintage Afternoon Tea—including classic recipes recovered from history books: traditional faves like giant strawberry rolls and fresh fruit cream cakes. Not to mention Sinfully Rich Hot Chocolate paired with palmier puff pastry cookies. The Afternoon Tea Dance is priced at HK$988 per person.

Other celebratory events in 2013 include a Diamond Jubilee menu at Gaddi’s—an eight-course feast marking the restaurant’s 60-year reign in Hong Kong.
