The Russian capital is getting a new luxury addition. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group recently announced the signing of a management contract for a new hotel and branded residences, slated to open in Moscow in 2021. This will be the first property in Russia for the renowned hospitality group, which currently operates 31 hotels and seven residences in 21 countries and territories.
Sought-after designer Pierre-Yves Rochon has been recruited to oversee the decoration of Mandarin Oriental, Moscow. Rochon is behind lauded projects like The Peninsula Shanghai, Savoy in London, and Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris— not to mention its talked-about new spa, a welcome wellness addition in the City of Light. Sergey Skuratov Architects will also be overseeing the project— which is owned by Capital Group, a large Moscow-based developer.
Note that the hotel has a privileged setting. Mandarin Oriental, Moscow will be located directly on the Moskva river facing the Kremlin. This riverfront perch on the Sofiyskaya embankment will put guests within easy access to city attractions and business districts.
There will be only 65 guest rooms and suites, along with 137 Residences at Mandarin Oriental— the very first such branded luxury residential development in Moscow. Facilities will include two restaurants, a lounge bar, a 25-meter swimming pool, and an expansive spa.
Mandarin Oriental operates many urban hotels across Europe— in destinations such as Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Geneva, London, Prague, Madrid, and Munich— and so Moscow is a natural fit for the portfolio.
