Feasting on Summer at Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C.
May 6, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger
The sounds of sizzling grills were heard over the weekend, signaling only one thing - summer is just around the corner.
In celebration of the sunniest season Mandarin Oriental D.C.'s restaurant Sou'Wester is offering outdoor dining festivities on the lawns of the hotel. There will be signature communal seating and family-style menus at each event, with monthly themes like a Memorial Day Crab Pot to a July 4th Pigs for the People.
The Memorial Day Crab Pot kicks off Sunday, May 30. For just $70 per guest enjoy the lunch fête from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. or the evening event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is summer eating at its best. Think roasted blue crabs, boiled Carolina shrimp, hush puppies and ham biscuits.
Celebrate Dad on Father's Day, June 20th, as Sou'Wester hosts a cooking demonstration by Chef Eric Ziebold. Families will be able to interact with Chef Ziebold as he focuses on grilling techniques for steaks, sausages and fresh vegetable. This 'hands-on' demonstration wouldn't be complete without a little taste test. Lunch guests will enjoy a meal of grilled steak and sausages, grilled asparagus, spring onions and mushrooms plus assorted salads and a delightful cherry crisp for dessert. The dinner menu will include a roasted leg of lamb, grilled steak, Caja-China roasted chicken, shish kebabs and more. Nice touch: The evening event will include a Bluegrass Band performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Sunday, July 4, celebrate Independence Day with 'Pigs for the People,' a feast featuring, you guessed it, a whole roasted pig. The feast includes grilled burgers, home-made bratwursts, pork confit sandwiches and more. Finish the whole event off with a Fourth of July Fireworks display on the lawn of Mandarin Oriental.
