Addition: New Bungalows at The Beverly Hills Hotel
October 27, 2009 By: David Eisen
It’s addition by two at The Beverly Hills Hotel. The Dorchester Collection property is adding two new bungalows, which will be constructed on what are now the hotel’s tennis courts. They are expected to be ready for guest use by November 2010. As for the tennis courts? No word yet.
The Beverly Hills Hotel’s current count of 21 bungalows is part of its total of 204 guest rooms and suites. The bungalows are known for attracting celebrity clientele: No. 1 was a favorite of Marilyn Monroe; No. 8, where Michael Milken threw Drexel Burnham Lambert’s notorious “no-wives” Thursday-night party; and No. 9, which Marlene Dietrich outfitted with a seven-by-eight-foot bed, and John Lennon and Yoko Ono resided in for a week.
The new 3,500-square-foot bungalows will be designed to fit the Mediterranean character of the property, with tile roofs, gardens and the famous pink stucco that gives the hotel its nickname, “The Pink Palace.” Walk-in closets, freestanding tubs, private outdoor showers and limestone fireplaces will be just some of the touches. What we love: expansive glass walls, oversized sliding glass doors and French doors will lead to each bungalow’s private pool and outdoor courtyard.
As usual, discretion will be key. Each will provide full inward-facing courtyards, lush landscaping, closed circuit cameras at every entrance and “panic buttons” installed discreetly throughout the space.
