Astrum Spa & Conference Hotel to Open in Shelkovo

Vienna International Hotelmanagement AG (VI) has announced that the Astrum Spa and Conference Hotel Shelkovo will open near Moscow in June 2014. The owner of the property is Shelkowskij Holding, while management of the hotel will be in the hands of VI.

The newest hotel in the greater Moscow region is currently being built on 27 floors in Shelkovo, around 20 kilometers from the Russian capital, in an urban agglomeration with a population of one million. VI has been involved from the beginning, assisting the five-star hotel in product development, the conception process and the pre-opening phase. Martin Lachout is the VI board member in charge of project development.

The hotel is said to be a “blend of art, history and the cosmos”, with the design concept on the subject of "the cosmos of time promising to provide guests with an unforgettable stay”. The interiors were created by Italian arts craftsman and designer Francesco Molon. Looking like a modern skyscraper from the outside, the interiors of the property will be more like those of a Venetian palazzo, as it is decorated in “tasteful colors”, so that the rooms will seem like a 19th century salon. These rooms will boast heavy curtains, carved ornaments, upholstered footstools, and framed paintings.

The hotel is part of a sundial park, with astronomical devices installed into the hotel facade and nearby the hotel, which supports the individual concept of the property.

A year before its grand opening, the five-star luxury hotel has been accepted for membership in The Leading Hotels of the World as one of the world’s best hotels on the Russian luxury hotel market. With a 3,400 square meter (36,597 square foot) spa and a 1,900 square meter (20,451 square foot) conference area, the hotel’s focus is said to be on wellness holidays and conference tourism.

The Astrum Spa and Conference Hotel Shelkovo will be the first and only internationally managed luxury hotel outside of Moscow. The property will boast, among others, private spa suites and saunas, and a medical spa offering minor medical treatments such as minimal-invasive aesthetic medicine, alternative treatment methods and nutritional science. The venue will also include post-operative care of cosmetic treatments performed at national beauty clinics, plus two-and-three-day preventive check-ups. An Ayurveda center is also planned.

The 1,900 square meter (20,451 square foot) event area of the Astrum Hotels Shelkovo will occupy seven separate event rooms on three floors. A 335 square meter (3,605 square foot) conference hall with amphitheatre seating, a 600 square meter (6,458 square foot) event room, and five meeting rooms will make it possible to hold events for up to 1,000 attendees. A separate entrance to the conference area is eyed to minimize the impact of external events on hotel operations.

In addition to the main hotel restaurant, the Astrum Spa and Conference Hotel Shelkovo will also feature a Japanese restaurant with a show kitchen, as well as an intimate French à-la-carte restaurant on the 23rd floor offering views and a seating capacity for 44 guests. A sky bar will also be housed on the same floor. Further facilities will include a fitness lounge, a lobby bar and an exclusive VIP club.

Frank Bauer will serve as the property’s GM.
