Big Apple Debut: Distrikt Hotel
February 5, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger
We just got back from our tour of Manhattan's newest luxury property, the Distrikt Hotel, which celebrated its debut February 1.
No doubt the biggest draw of this 155-room hotel (and what most impressed us) is its design, which pays homage to Manhattan in every way, down to the smallest detail. The hotel themes itself around 10 distinct New York neighborhoods, which is reflected in the Collage Restaurant and on each of the 32 floors. Nice Touch: Even the lobby's hanging lights are positioned strategically to represent Manhattan's most notable sky-scrapers.
We were shown a room from each of its three categories. Room No. 2604 was a Queen room, and the smallest of the categories. We also saw rooms 2603 and 2601, both King rooms, and 2602, which has two double beds. Each floor has the same floor plan and all the rooms, while the bed sizes vary, offer the same amenities. These include flatscreen televisions, iHome docking stations, Wi-Fi and broadband internet, turndown service, ECRU New York amenities and complimentary New York Times delivery. Top digs: There are no suites in the hotel but we recommend booking above the 16th floor because those rooms offer the best views.
Still in the early opening stages, the Collage restaurant is currently offering only continental breakfast. It will be fully up and running in tentatively three weeks. The menu will focus on New York comfort foods, like the famed hot dog and pretzel. The beer and wine selections will also be locally based. Until then the hotel is offering 24-hour room service.
