Langham Hotels is embarking on an era of growth, aiming to double the number of hotels in its global portfolio to 50 within the next five years, according to a story on channelnewsasia.com.

To do so, it has an eye on Asia, where it currently has three hotels but plans for five more in Dalian, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. (This to capture the ever-growing domestic demand in China for hotel product.)

The hotel company says it is seeing more and more demand for luxury product in China. "We see a real excitement particularly in China, about European luxury and European hospitality. You only have to go to the shops in Hong Kong to see the Chinese shopping for Louis Vuitton bags or Gucci or Prada. The Chinese love European luxury so there's a real hunger for that in China," said Bob van den Oord, vice president of sales & marketing, Langham Hotels International.

Check out this article on Luxist with van den Oord, who also touches on the growth of Langham Place, Langham's more edgier boutique product.

Other markets of interest for Langham include the Middle East, India, and the U.S.In Southeast Asia, Langham is looking for opportunities in Singapore.

Channelnewsasia.com says Langham has about $1 billion set aside for acquisitions, and expansion will include new management contracts.
