Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is seeking new heights. Literally. We hear the luxury brand is bringing its name to Lhasa, Tibet, the highest region on earth.

In April, Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa is scheduled to open with 289 rooms. Guests will arrive at the hotel through a grand entrance gate, which opens into a plaza inspired by Tibetan architecture. Cool touch: The focal point of the lounge will be a 21-foot bell-like chandelier draped in red fabric, similar to a traditional prayer wheel.

Way Up High: An oxygen lounge helps guests acclimate to the altitude.Pictured: Way Up High: An oxygen lounge helps guests acclimate to the altitude.

Inside, guests will find the hotel’s Horizon Club Lounge, as well as an oxygen lounge to help guests acclimate to the high altitude. Here, travelers can enjoy reflexology treatments while overlooking the gardens.

Guest rooms start at 452 square feet and have complimentary Wi-Fi.

For dining, Shambala will be a tapas bar and lounge serving authentic Tibetan cuisine. Signature dishes will include roasted lamb ribs marinated in Tibetan yogurt, and baked bacon wrapped in Tibetan cheese. The all-day dining restaurant, Altitude, will serve international fare. Shang Palace, a Shangri-La signature restaurant, will serve Cantonese and Sichuan specialties.
