Luxury Rises in Baltimore

We all love HBO's hit series, "The Wire," but the show's corrupt and seedy backdrop that is Baltimore, MD, is certainly not the whole picture. Baltimore is a burgeoning jetset city, replete with history, dining, shopping and culture (and maybe a sports fan, or two). Did you know that Forbes ranked Baltimore as America's third best shopping destination in 2010? New York didn't even make the top three! Allow us to show you the glitzy side of Baltimore.

New on the Block: Scheduled to debut this November in Baltimore's Harbor East, The Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore. The 18-story luxury hotel is designed with Baltimore's chic and edgy side in mind (think a strollable waterfront community of shops, cafes and theaters). The hotel will offer 256 rooms and is within walking distance to historic neighborhoods such s Fells Point, Little Italy and Canton.

Maritime munch: Famed restaurateur Michael Mina is itching to unveil is first Baltimore outpost. We hear the theme for Wit & Wisdom by Michael Mina was taken from the dockside joints that once welcomed shipmen and traders to Baltimore's port. The menu will offer an array of grilled entrees served in cast iron skillets and meats and seafood cooked by rotisserie, wood fired grill, slow braised or baked in sea salt.

The hotel will also offer LAMILL COFFEE for casual diner-style fare, and the Pool Bar and Grill, for drinks and light snacks. The Bar and Lobby Lounge will welcome those looking for pre-dinner drinks or light meals. We hear that 2012 will bring Pabu, an izakaya-style Japanese pub.

Unwind at the Spa, a 10,000-square-foot oasis featuring 11 treatment rooms, many with private soaking tubs. Two pools include a year-round heated pool with an infinity edge.

If you are looking for already established luxury in Baltimore, we suggest checking out the InterContinental Harbor Court Baltimore, the Inn at Perry Cabin or the Hotel Monaco Baltimore.
