Good news for lovers of old: Four Seasons Hotel Damascus is offering a selection of tours that explore the gems of Syria.

We hear that the luxury hotel has crafted a series of tours that range from four to 11 hours, offering everything from a leisurely walk around the Old City to a long drive to the Roman ruins of Palmyra.

We like the Southern Region tour, which visits the ancient city of Shahba, Bosra and Ezrae during the course of a seven-hour drive. Visit the ruins of the Roman theater at Bosra (back in the day, it was decked out in marble and shimmering silk - how Roman!). Today the Bosra Festival, held every September, returns the theater to its former glory.
