A Bevy of New Luxury Hotels for Washington D.C.

Capella Washington D.C.There’s been lots of buzz about the arrival of Capella Hotels and Resorts in Washington D.C. this month, as Horst H. Schulze’s luxury brand debuts next to the historic C&O Canal in Georgetown. (We’re already drooling over the restaurant concepts, not to mention the rooftop pool and lounge.)

But Capella won't be the only luxe addition to the District’s hotel scene. A recent article in The Washington Post reports that “high-end hotels plan 1,800 new rooms in downtown D.C., shaking up the market.” With this surge in new product, analysts predict a dramatic change in the city’s hospitality industry.

There’s the Marriott Marquis convention center hotel, which will have 1,175 guest rooms when it opens in Spring 2014. Donald Trump is still negotiating the terms for the hotel he plans to build in the Old Post Office pavilion. (Expected to open in 2016.) Last but not least: Hilton is in talks with developers of CityCenterDC to build a 370-room Conrad hotel in downtown Washington.
