Sean MacPherson is Manhattan's hipster hotelier du jour, and we hear he's at it again. The Lower East Side's The Ludlow Hotel is showing off the best of the iconic neighborhood's culture, fashion and food.
The hotel's Lobby Lounge & Garden (decked out with a distressed limestone fireplace, oversized chandeliers, Moroccan rugs and vintage furniture) is a hot spot for daytime lingering and nighttime cocktails. The lobby bar's cocktail program is helmed by resident bartender Thomas Waugh, who takes inspiration from cocktail parlors of Paris and New Orleans. Tip: Try the Muddy Water, made with Powers Irish Whiskey, cumin-infused Sazerac Rye, Amaro Nonino, bitters and Absinthe Rinse.
The 184 guest rooms feature black-and-gold lamps made in Morocco, Indo-Portuguese style wooden bed frames, handmade silk floor rugs from India and wooden nightstands. The bathrooms, many of which have views, have Red Flower bath products.
Be sure to check out the ground floor restaurant, Dirty French, which is manned by Rich Torrisi, Mario Carbone and Jeff Zalaznick (think Torrisi, Parm, Carbone and ZZ's Clam Bar). We hear you should try the Duck a l'Orange with ras el hanout and preserved oranges, or the bouillabaisse noire with rouget, octopus and rouille.
