Marrakech continues to unveil exciting new hotels and cultural venues. The latest example: The “Red City” will soon be home to a museum dedicated to fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who was famously inspired by Marrakech and its colors. Slated to open in autumn 2017, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech was designed by the French architecture firm Studio KO (also behind the Chiltern Firehouse in London).
Covering more than 4,000 square meters, the terracotta brick structure is situated next to the beautiful Jardin Majorelle, and will house the collections of the Fondation Pierre Bergé -- Yves Saint Laurent. This includes 5,000 pieces of clothing, 15,000 haute couture accessories, and thousands of the designer’s sketches—all currently housed in Paris. Museum facilities will include a large permanent exhibition space, temporary exhibition spaces, an auditorium, a book shop, a restaurant with a terrace, and a library stocked with 5,000 books related to the designer.
