NYC’s East Village Club Scene

A glass of cocktailFor most, tequila and mezcal dredge up unsavory college memories and a bitter taste in the mouth. But at Mayahuel in New York City’s East Village, the aim is to dispel these unfavorable misconceptions and bring forward the truth about Mexico’s token spirits. Slip into the two-level lounge and restaurant (note: the mysterious watering hole is secluded behind an unmarked door) and ready yourself for the journey that mixologist Phil Ward will send you on. Try the Amor Morado, which caught our eye off the lengthy menu. This potent potable consists of tequila blanco with sloe gin, violette, absinthe, grapefruit and lemon. Note: Reservations are not accepted and the lounge cannot accommodate a party over eight people. Contact Emily (emily@mayahuelny.com) with special requests.
