Nobu Restaurant Opens in Moscow

May 28, 2009 By: Mary Winston Nicklin

Who says Russian billionaires aren't spending? We hear the Ritz-Carlton Moscow-- known for its over-the-top excess (like the world's most expensive breakfast)-- draws a crowd. Now there's a new Nobu in town, and millionaire developer Aras Agalarov has promised the restaurant will be quite profitable. (Bloomberg estimates the average cost of a meal to be about $90.) Perched at the top of Agalarov's four-story Crocus luxury retail building, the latest Nobu outpost is part of a rapidly expanding empire from uber chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa.

Co-founded by Robert DeNiro, the Nobu chain currently has 22 restaurants in 18 different cities around the world. The most recent openings were in Atlantis Paradise Island, Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, and the Westin, Astir Palace Beach Resort in Athens, Greece. And from the looks of the official website, Nobu could soon have a restaurant on every continent, as the chef himself is always traveling the globe, "visiting all of his restaurants and scouting new locations to conquer."
