Where to See 'Outlander' Filming Locations in Scotland

Fans of Diana Gabaldon's series of romantic historical fantasy novels have been waiting for this moment for years: Outlander is coming to the small screen—and, even better, it is being filmed on location in Scotland

The series, which follows the adventures of a 20th-century English nurse who travels back in time to 18th-century Scotland and finds love (and plenty of adventure) with a Highlander, is currently shooting on location at Doune Castle in Perthshire. According to the Herald Scotland, the series is the most expensive TV production yet to be filmed north of the border.

In the series, Doune Castle will double as Castle Leoch, the home of Clan MacKenzie in the books. Historic Scotland, which runs the property, hopes its appearance on the show will lead to an increase in its 40,000 annual visits. (They'll have to wait a bit, though: The story notes that the castle is closed to the public until March 22.)

Other locations for Outlander include Culross and Loch Rannoch.
