Flying Dutchman Temporarily Grounded

February 9, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

We hear that Cape Point's Flying Dutchman funicular in the Table Mountain National Park has suspended its service as of January 18. The 13-year-old mechanism is used to ferry tourists up a steep incline to the park's old lighthouse.

But fear not. Tourists will still be able to reach the top of the incline via a temporary bus service. A new Flying Dutchman will reopen on April 24, fully operational in time for Cape Town's expected tourist inundation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
