The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has officially signed an agreement with Sichuan Jiuzhai Luneng Eco-Tourism Investment Development Co. Limited to open its first all-villa property in Jiuzhaigou Valley, one of China’s earliest UNESCO world heritage sites.
With an elevation of 2,300 metres above sea level, The Ritz-Carlton Jiuzhaigou will have 87 villas each with panoramic views over the valley and snow-capped Min Mountains. Located in South West China on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, the property offers views of the close by multi-level waterfalls, lakes and forests the 72,000-hectare nature reserve and national park is known for.
The hotel will offer three restaurants and lounges with stone-paved terraces and fire pits for evening enjoyment. Onsite facilities and amenities include a mountain spa, a Kids Club, a media room and a wide variety of activity centers.
Jiuzhaigou Valley, which translates to Valley of the Nine Village Forts, has a deep rooted history in Chinese legend and folklore with a variety of stories of its creation embedded within the customs of the local Qiang and Tibetan tribes. Natural highlights of Jiuzhaigou, which are best explored on foot, include Pearl Shoal Waterfalls, ancient primeval woodlands, a Swan Lake (named after its frequent visits from bird life) and over 100 nearby lakes, both blue and green, all of which are named for a specific story.
Herve Humler, president and COO for The Ritz-Carlton, made a statement saying, “We are delighted to be fulfilling the desires of our sophisticated international travelers by opening exceptional properties in new locations.” He added, “Working closely with our partners, we will be curating a Jiuzhaigou experience that honors its UNESCO heritage.”
