Motorcycle Touring in Thailand
January 5, 2010 By: Meagan DrillingerWe hear that motorcycle-lovers will find Thailand to be one of the great destinations for motorcycle touring, due to its diverse landscape, historic sites, and cultural experiences.
For unparalleled landscape, travel the border roads between Mae Sariang and Mae Sot, and the route from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Song (a looped route). These areas are in the north and northwest of the country and are said to be some of the most beautiful. Chiang Mai, a hopping tourist destination, can be used as a base, with motorcycle routes beginning 10 minute from the city center.
For waterfalls, rivers, lakes and reservoirs, the routes west of Bangkok are best. Travel to Sangkhlaburi and explore Three Pagodas Pass, Sai Yok National Park and the Si Nakharin Dam. This route is ideal for travelers looking for resort accommodations with waterfront views.
A roadside stop in southern Thailand will most likely be a beach town along the Andaman Coast. Other stopping points include Khao Sok National Park, Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. These coastal cities have luxury accommodations for the weary traveler.
