Confirmed: Four Seasons Great Exuma to CloseMay 17, 2009 By: Ruthanne Terrero
We were perusing the Four Seasons website and came upon this chunk of news....I guess it's a sign of the times.
"Thank you for your interest in Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma.
We regret to inform you that the resort will be closed as of May 26th, 2009.
Four Seasons continues to operate the resort normally until that time, however, we are not accepting new reservations.
We would be delighted to help you with alternate travel plans at one of our other hotels or resorts for the dates you are travelling."
The 183-room luxury resort on the Bahamas Out Island of Exuma opened in November 2003 and has been been in receivership since June 2007, but there had been hope that another ownership group would step in.
Four Seasons Nevis in the same region is also closed, however, that is due to hurricane damage.
One luxury travel advisor who commented on the situation noted that the Exuma property wasn't Four Seasons' best; moreover, it suffered from dicey weather at times during the winter high season.
Quick to comment was Grand Isle Resort & Spa, also located at Emerald Bay, which sent out a press release reminding travelers that it is open and fully functional.
