Fall has officially begun in New York City, so while we start planning for Thanksgiving and the holiday season (113 days until Christmas!), it's time to start looking ahead toward next spring.
And this looks like a great event to kick off warmer weather after a cold winter: City website Gothamist is reporting that all three of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films will be screened on three successive April nights with live orchestral accompaniment.
An estimated 250 musicians with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will take the stage at Lincoln Center to perform the score live under a giant movie screen. Tickets for the performances are on sale now, and start at $59 for each screening. VIPs, of course, will want to book one of the full Trilogy packages: $240 for "the Hobbit Package" and $400 for "the VIP Gondor Package." The former includes a Premium Trilogy Ticket, a post-concert Shire Reception (sounds intriguing) and a commemorative program book signed by the films' Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore. The latter includes a VIP Trilogy Ticket, access to the reception, a ticket to the LOTR at Lincoln Center Symposium Event and the program book.
The live screenings will take place April 8 through April 12, 2015 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
