Manhattan to get New Cabaret Venue Below Studio 54

As New York's cabaret community mourns the loss of the Algonquin Oak Room, some hope appears on the horizon: Playbill.com is reporting that Tony Award-winning producers Tom Viertel, Marc Routh, Richard Frankel and Steven Baruch have announced the June 2012 opening of 54 Below, a nightclub and restaurant at 254 West 54th Street, one floor below the iconic former nightclub (now Broadway theater) Studio 54.

Olivier and two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone will open the venue in June with a two-week engagement; other Broadway stars confirmed include Ben Vereen, Brian d'Arcy James, Megan Hilty, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Linda Lavin, Andrea Martin, Rebecca Luker, Julia Murney, Jackie Hoffman, Lea DeLaria, Eden Espinosa, Michael Arden, Tony DeSare and Justin Vivian Bond.

The venue will feature up to three shows nightly and will have audio and video recording capabilities. The capacity is 160.
