August 14, 2012 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Big news for film fans in New York: The 50th anniversary edition of the Film Society of Lincoln Center's New York Film Festival has its opening and closing films lined up. Gothamist is reporting that Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling novel Life of Pi will open the festival on September 28, and Robert Zemeckis' Flight (starring Denzel Washington) will close the series on October 14.
Notably, Life of Pi will be the first 3D film to open the festival. Lee has had two other films holding prestigious placement in previous New York Film Festivals: The Ice Storm opened the 1997 event while Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was the closing night selection in 2000.
General Public tickets for the 50th New York Film Festival will be available September 9. There will be a pre-sale ticketing period for Film Society Patrons and Members prior to that date. For ticketing information, visit www.filmlinc.com/nyff2012/pages/tickets.
