Enjoy Olive Harvest and Truffle Hunting at Palazzo Margherita

This fall, guests at the Palazzo Margherita in Basilicata, Italy can take part in two authentic Italian Autumn events: olive harvest and truffle hunting. Family Coppola Hideaways is offering two unique vacation packages centered on these seasonal adventures at its luxurious Italian resort.

Olive Harvest 

The first package is a full-day immersive experience in creating your very own bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil from start to finish in the beautiful region of Basilicata. This excursion will take place on one of the first 10 days of November – the key olive harvest period.

During the harvest, guests will learn how to produce olive oil in the countryside of Genzano di Lucania, located not far from the Castello Normanno-Svevo, one of the Swabian Castles most frequented by Roman Emperor Frederick II.

This is followed with a visit to an olive grove farm where guests will pick the olives that Basilicata is known for worldwide. By evening, guests will return to the Palazzo Margherita with fresh produce from the Italian countryside.

Truffle Hunting in the Lucanian Apennines

Learn the secrets of the elusive hunt for the while truffle. Guests on this excursion, running from October through December, will travel to the Parco Nazionale del Pollino, a forest at the base of the Lucanian Apennines and the biggest national park in Italy.

Walk through the forest with an expert truffle hunter and his dog to witness the process of finding the delicacies. The expert will share secrets of the truffle-hunting business that he attained from his ancestors and through years of experience. Along the journey through the forest, guests will learn about the local flora and fauna that passes them by.
