Khaki pants have been an American staple for years–a fashion statement picked up from the British whose army force wore them all the way back during the Second Boer War. The rise of denim pushed khakis to the background, but now there is a resurgence, led by some of today's hottest fashion designers.
We hear that Steven Alan, most known for his tailored perfect-fitting shirts, will is designing a khaki line for Dockers, which has successfully reshaped itself as a fashion forward clothier as opposed to what it used to be known as–your father's Friday pant. Alan's collection for Dockers will arrive at Barneys New York and Steven Alan Annex stores in October. The New York Times says Alan has designed three styles of khakis for Dockers, starting at $128. As accoutrements, he's also designing a collection of poplin shirts and ties. The Times article also says that "the new rage for khakis in designer fashion calls for pants that don’t droop in the rear, nor billow at the thighs, nor fall short of the ankle by more than precisely one inch." Sounds like khakis are getting a retooling that will push it forward for years to come.
