2013 Savannah Music Festival Announced

Savannah Music Festival (SMF) has announced the lineup for its 2013 season, a city-wide musical arts event showcasing performers in jazz, classical, Americana and world music from March 21 to April 6, 2013.

Described by USA Today as “one of the top music festivals in the world,” SMF features more than 100 productions during the 17-day event. Highlights include numerous festival debuts and unique collaborations, in addition to a wealth of varied concert programs and an unmatched variety of American acoustic music, blues and jazz. SMF offers attendees a chance to hit the dance floor with Cajun, Salsa and Zydeco dance parties.

The festival takes place in venues throughout Savannah, including the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, Trustees Theater, Charles H. Morris Center, Johnny Mercer Theater, Temple Mickve Israel, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, Trinity United Methodist Church, Christ Church Episcopal, Reynolds Square and Rousakis Plaza.

During the festival, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra makes its seventh consecutive appearance with all-American program, including the premiere of a co-commissioned piano concerto by Marcus Roberts under the direction of Robert Spano. The commissioned works for Daniel Hope & Friends by Alexandra Du Bois and Charlotte Bray will also be launched; while Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company performs with Dover Quartet and Ensemble 39.

Still others lined up include: Anne Sofie Von Otter and Daniel Hope performing two unique programs, German and American; David Finckel and Wu Han making sixth straight appearance, performing as a duo and with Daniel Hope & Friends; Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio and the Miami String Quartet performing together and in collaboration with Daniel Hope; and Sebastian Knauer leading Chamber Orchestra playing concertos by Bach and Mozart.
