Few places are as charged with imagination and myth as the Maasai Mara. Abutting Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains, this famous national reserve in Kenya is an endless expanse of savannah silhouetted with acacia trees, populated with abundant wildlife. It’s not just an iconic destination for the Great Migration, when a million wildebeest travel seasonally across the plains; the Maasai Mara is terrific spot for a safari year-round. It’s here where Angama Mara, a lodge overseen by experienced safari veteran Nicky Fitzgerald, will be unveiling a unique mobile tented camp in July 2020.
The Angama Safari Camp will offer an exclusive safari experience in a remote area of the southwestern Mara Triangle. What this means is that guests will have unparalleled access to the herds of the Great Migration and the predators that stalk them. (The Maasai Mara is prime “Big Five” territory.) Angama Safari Camp will be open seasonally to coincide with this big natural event; it will operate until the end of September, with dates in October available on request.
Angama Safari Camp aims to recreate the safari adventures of yesteryear, with candlelit dinners and campfire stories surrounded by the raw grandeur of the wilderness. The same team that created Angama Mara have collaborated on this project, with tent design conceived by Jay Allan and interiors by Annemarie Meintjes. Angama Safari Camp will have four tents, designed to maximize cross-ventilation, sleeping up to eight guests. Each will be equipped with a bedroom, dressing room and bathroom. Note that a minimum three-night stay is required and children of all ages are welcome.
