In the USA you pay for the room and not for the person. The idea of budget accommodation in Aspen is slightly quaint – rather like searching for budget accommodation in St Moritz. But of course even here some places are cheaper than others, particularly in Snowmass because it's furthest from the slopes of Ajax Mountain.

Prices are per room per night, unless otherwise stated.

Budget

The Snowmass Mountain Chalet ( mountainchalet.com ) is a traditional ski-in/ski-out lodge located just below the Snowmass Mall, a short ski down to the Base Village. It has its own heated outdoor pool and hot tub, plus breakfast and a soup lunch are included in the price during the winter season. From $155.

The central St Moritz Lodge ( stmoritzlodge.com ) in West Hyman Avenue gets rave reviews, and has a heated outdoor pool, hot tub and steam room. Continental breakfast is included, plus yhe Lodge hosts après parties where spiced cider with rum and cookies are served. From $134.

The family-owned, three-star Annabelle Inn ( annabelleinn.com ) on West Main Street has an outdoor hot tub and includes a buffet breakfast. From $149.

Mid-range

The four-star Viceroy Hotel in the heart of Snowmass Village ( viceroyhotelsandresorts.com ) is ski-in/ski-out and has a spa. The buffet breakfast there is one of the finest experiences you’ll encounter in the Rockies. From $220.

The four-star Sky Hotel ( theskyhotel.com ) at the base of Ajax Mountain on East Durant Avenue is ideally placed for the mountain everyone wants a piece of, plus it boasts an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, gym, and a stylish pool-side après bar. From $320.

The Molly Gibson Lodge ( mollygibson.com ) in Aspen’s West Main Street is a popular boutique choice. It has an outdoor heated pool and hot tub, plus an extensive breakfast buffet, free après snacks and drinks, and a shuttle service to and from the airport are all included in the price. From $159.

Luxury

Decades ago, The Little Nell ( thelittlenell.com ) on East Durant Avenue, was a rustic breakfast eatery. Now it’s morphed into one of the smartest hotels in town, with three bars, two restaurants and a heated outdoor pool and hot tub. It also offers complimentary shuttle services to and from the airport, around town and to all four ski areas, plus free use of fat-tyred snow bikes. From $395.

The Hotel Jerome ( hoteljerome.aubergeresorts.com ) on East Main Street is Aspen’s oldest and loftiest hotel, which opened in 1889 when miners started celebrating silver strikes in the hotel’s bar. Its 93 guest rooms were recently renovated and it also boasts a spa, gastro restaurant and saloon-style bar. From $360.

The five-star St Regis ( stregis.com ) is handily located at the foot of Aspen Mountain on East Dean Street. It has an outdoor pool, spa, gym and on-site Italian restaurant. From $380.
