Supporting Australia: New Hotels to Visit in Wake of Bushfires

Australia has been experiencing unprecedented brushfires for the past six-plus months, with upwards of 15 million acres of land burned and an estimated one billion animals feared dead. But the country remains open to visitors; in fact, it’s one of the best things you can do for the destination right now.

“It is more important than ever to support Australian tourism providers and encourage people to book a holiday in Australia, whether in unaffected regions or those that will recover from these bushfires in the months and years to come,” Phillipa Harrison, managing director of Tourism Australia, tells Luxury Travel Advisor. “The best way to support Australia, Australian communities and the tourism sector is to keep visiting.” More than 660,000 people in Australia depend on tourism for their livelihoods and most of Australia’s destinations have not been affected by the fires. Here are some hotels to consider for your support vacation:

The Ritz-Carlton, Perth: Located at The Towers at Elizabeth Quay, the new property has 204 luxury suites, plus myriad F&B venues and recreational amenities. Tip: The podium rooftop bar is accessible to the general public and offers a prime vantage point over the quay-side.

Langham Place Adelaide: The 12-story seaside luxury hotel, set in the popular seaside suburb of Glenelg, will have 146 rooms, 60 residential apartments, restaurants, high-end shopping, business and leisure facilities — as well as views of the Holdfast Bay Marina.

Voco Sydney: Scheduled to open in 2020, the Voco Sydney Central Hotel will have 301 premium guestrooms and an Instagram-worthy “green waterfall” cascading from the 17-story building’s rooftop. The hotel, on Pitt Street near the Capitol Theatre, will offer local treats and a social bar.

QT Newcastle: The boutique QT Hotel brand will be making its Newcastle debut in 2020. The 106-room, design-led hotel’s quirky flair and distinctive service will be a highlight. Expect a rooftop bar and a signature QT dining concept. Set to take over the former 111-year-old David Jones Building, QT Newcastle will be located on Hunter Mall, home to community-led creative enterprises and projects.

Hyatt Centric Hobart: The new lifestyle brand by Hyatt Hotels is set to debut in central Hobart in 2020. The hotel promises an upscale, cosmopolitan experience created for Millennial-minded business and leisure travelers.

Mojo Nomad South Yarra: Following its success in Hong Kong, Ovolo Group is set to launch its Mojo Nomad brand in Australia. Mojo Nomad South Yarra is expected to bring a unique and exciting concept to Melbourne, touting a funky, community-first approach.
