Directly beside the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, the epicentre of the Cannes Film Festival, the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes is one of the best hotels in Cannes and a popular choice among visiting film stars.  One of the most coveted rooms is the Suite Majestic, which features an expansive rooftop terrace, cinema room, fitness centre and personal butler. It costs from €32,000 per night.

The hotel also features a Christian Dior suite, the only suite in Europe to be designed by the fashion brand . It again comes with butler service, and is decorated with pictures of celebrities affiliated with the hotel and the label.

One of the largest hotel suites in France, the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez's four-bedroom penthouse suite is spread over 1,670sq metres. It features a garden, two Jacuzzis and works of art by Picasso and Matisse. It costs €38,200 per night.

At the InterContinental Carlton Cannes, seventh-floor "prestige suites" are named after celebrities with a long-standing association with the city. Pictured here, the Sean Connery suite features four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a private lift, and terrace with panoramic sea views. It costs from €25,000 per night.

At the JW Marriott Cannes, two presidential suites offer the most exclusive experience. Each with two separate balconies, they offer sea views, separate dressing rooms and kitchen, and guests enjoy a mass of amenities and special privileges such as complimentary beauty treatments. Rates start from €7,000 per night.

At the Five Seas Hotel Cannes, the two-bedroom Terrace Suite is best enjoyed in good weather. A private, 38sq metre terrace features a sleek Jacuzzi made of steel and glass and looks directly onto the Notre Dame de Bon Voyage church. Rates start at €700 a night.

Though the film festival endows Cannes with an undeniable glamour each summer, the town, famed for its colossal conference centre, holds a limited number of luxury hotels. Celebrities often venture slightly further afield in search of accommodation that meets their expectations. About 30 minutes from Cannes, the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc's  Eden-Roc suite features a private terrace with Jacuzzi with views of the Lérins Islands and Mediterranean. It costs €6,800 per night.

The hotel offers even more exclusive accommodation at Villa Eleana, which stands on the Eden-Roc grounds but apart from the main hotel. Previous guests include the Jolie-Pitts, Jennifer Lopez and Tom Cruise, who would have had full use of the private outdoor pool and cabana, alongside activities such as baking lessons with the hotel's pastry chef. B&B rates start from €11,300 per night.

About an hour from Cannes and now managed by Four Seasons, Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat also offers its own standalone villa to privacy-seeking guests. Four-bedroom Villa Rose-Pierre features a private pool and tennis court and interiors by Alberto Pinto. It costs from €5,000 per night.
