Usually New Yorkers and tourists try to avoid old, slow subway cars — except during the holidays. Now through Christmas Eve ride New York City’s vintage subway train. Customers can catch the classic R1/9 car on the 6th Avenue line between Queens Plaza and Second Avenue.
The specialty trip costs the same as a regular fare, $2.25 on a MetroCard, and leaves from Second Avenue at 9:58 a.m., 11:37 a.m., 12:57 p.m. and 3:57 p.m and from Queens Plaza at 10:43 a.m., 12:13 p.m., 1:42 p.m., 3:13 p.m. and 4:43 p.m. Travelers can also catch the subway at Court Square, Lexington Avenue/ 53rd Street, Fifth Avenue/53rd Street, Rockefeller Center, 42nd Street Bryant Park, Herald Square, 23rd Street, 14th Street/Sixth Avenue, Washington Square and Broadway/Lafayette Street.
In addition, visit the Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal now through January 19 or visit the Transit Museum all year long in Brooklyn Heights.
