Cirque du Soleil Brings Kooza to Spanish Resort

High-end business travelers to Spain have a new attraction to explore, and a good reason to bring their families along on their trips:

Just outside of Barcelona, PortAventura Resort is the second-largest destination resort in Europe and the largest in the Mediterranean. The resort has four four-star hotels with 2,000 rooms are nearby as part of the complex, and more than 30 restaurants offer corporate catering. PortAventura Park, meanwhile, is a leisure park with differently themed areas that can be used for golf, team-building activities and entertainment. Over the last four years, PortAventura has invested around €125 million to boost international attendance and increase appeal throughout Europe.

To that end, PortAventura has reached a licensing agreement with Ferrari to create “Ferrari Land,” a new theme park dedicated to the Italian brand and featuring the first-ever Ferrari hotel. Other developments include the opening of a new attraction, “Angkor: Adventure in the Lost Kingdom” and the—perhaps more significantly—the incorporation of Cirque du Soleil’s show Kooza as one of this summer’s main attractions. The show premiered last week, and is the first Cirque show to be hosted at a European resort. With 53 performers of 18 different nationalities, Kooza combines two circus traditions: acrobatic performance and the art of clowning.
