New York City website Gothamist has a fun story about Tribeca's Greenwich Hotel, calling out the property's "hidden spa" and other perks. Cool touches: The hotel is owned by Hollywood star (and Tribeca devotee) Robert De Niro and has just 88 rooms (like the keys on a piano, we say).
So what's worth exploring at this downtown gem? The basement-level Shibui Spa has a lantern-lit swimming pool and a 250-year old Japanese bamboo roof that was reconstructed for the property. In the surrounding lounge, matcha is whisked to order and sake is available pre- and post- spa treatment.
When you enter the main "drawing room" (which has a wood-burning fireplace—perfect for these freezing evenings), be sure to order a proper Old Fashioned at the bar. (Gothamist says it's one of the best downtown, so we'll need to try and report back). When the weather gets warmer, the drawing room leads to an enclosed courtyard for al fresco relaxation.
And for snacking, the hotel doesn't just provide a mini-bar in each room. Guests can grab snacks from a metal basket—complimentary, of course. (We say they go perfectly with a De Niro film fest...or, given the location, a private Tribeca Film Festival in the comfort of one's room.)
