Want to get some exercise while taking in some sightseeing? Here's a good solution: Context, the walking-tour company, has just launched an Amsterdam program. Working with local guides and historians, Context now has four tours that go behind the scenes of some of the city's top spots and hidden gems.
Options include an exploration into the city’s golden age of colonial expansion, including the site of a historic decision to start a small colony on the island of Manhattan. Another highlight is a walk around Rembrandt’s Amsterdam and visit some of the artist’s favorite haunts.
The recently reopened Rijksmuseum is also included in the program, with a 2.5 hour guided tour led by art historians and focusing on the Dutch Masters. The Jews in Amsterdam walk completes the Central European set of thematically linked tours on Jewish history and culture.
Good to know: Walks are offered both privately (and can be scheduled for visitors' convenience) or as regularly scheduled shared group walks.
