Corinthia Hotel Lisbon Earns Energy Award

Want to go green in Portugal? The Corinthia Hotel Lisbon was named the Western Europe Region Energy Project of the Year for its energy-efficient hotel project. Every year, the Association of Energy Engineers Conference honors the achievements being made in energy by individuals and organizations that have demonstrated notable contributions to the profession through individual accomplishments, noteworthy projects or outstanding corporate energy programs.

This year the annual AAE conference took place in Washington, DC, on September 24, 2013, where Pedro Ferreira, engineer at Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, accepted the Award on behalf of the Hotel.

“This project combines our commitment to reduce our CO2 footprint with our goal to achieve energy efficiency,” Reuben Mifsud, General Manager of the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon, said. During the first half of 2013, Corinthia Lisbon reduced 25 percent of its energy consumption, which corresponds to 600.000 kWh and 290 tons of CO2.

The Corinthia Hotel Lisbon Energy Efficient Hotel project was implemented in partnership with Galp Soluções de Energia and Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade (ISQ) that developed innovative energy solutions to meet the hotel needs. The water reservoirs, the heat exchangers and the energy management system were designed according to the hotel energy profile.
